Individual Therapy
In the vibrant city of Busan, South Korea, individuals seeking support in English have historically faced a challenge. Recognizing this gap, I embarked on a journey to become a therapist, driven by a desire to offer a bridge for English speakers in need of mental health support. My practice stands out as one of the few, if not the only, that offers therapy in both English and Korean, catering specifically to the diverse community in Busan. My approach to therapy is deeply rooted in the belief that every individual's experience is unique, and therapy should be a journey tailored to the client's personal wants and needs.

Embracing a Client-Centered Approach
At the heart of my therapeutic practice is the conviction that therapy should be client-experience-centered. This means moving beyond the therapist’s or the world’s perceptions of what might be the problem or what should be worked on. Instead, it's about focusing on what the client perceives as their needs and desires, even if it involves discovering those needs together. Drawing upon Emotion-Focused Therapy and Schema Therapy, my practice emphasizes talk therapy complemented by Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills for emotional regulation and social skill techniques. When addressing trauma, I prioritize establishing a strong, attachment-based relationship with the client, incorporating talk therapy and, when appropriate, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Specialized Support for Diverse Needs
My specialization spans a broad range of areas including anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, family conflicts, LGBTQ+ support, and intercultural relationship dynamics, particularly between Korean and foreign partners. My personal experience as a foreigner in Busan enriches my empathy and understanding, allowing me to connect deeply with clients facing similar challenges. Whether it's navigating ADHD, making significant life decisions, or exploring identity and relationships, my practice is dedicated to targeted, empathetic support.

A Tailored Therapeutic Experience
Every session is designed to meet where the client is at that moment. Initial conversations often explore how the client has been, their current struggles, and their goals for therapy. This client-led approach ensures that therapy addresses the most pressing issues first, using a vast array of therapeutic skills and knowledge to support the client’s growth and healing. Progress is measured in terms of the client’s own goals and sense of well-being, emphasizing personal development and self-understanding.

Building a Foundation of Trust and Acceptance
Creating a safe and welcoming environment is paramount. My approach is characterized by an absence of preconceived judgments and a deep understanding that mental health and happiness do not conform to a standard mold. I encourage clients to move at their own pace and voice any concerns, providing unwavering support and acceptance to foster a strong therapeutic alliance.

Conclusion
My practice is a testament to the belief that therapy is a collaborative journey of exploration and growth. For those in Busan seeking a compassionate, English and Korean speaking therapist, my doors are open. Together, we can navigate the complexities of life, working towards not just healing, but thriving in a way that's meaningful and fulfilling for you.
